The hike
We don’t think you can go wrong with any hike in Sedona. Little Horse Trail showcases the beautiful red rock of Sedona. This hike starts off flat and overall you only gain 564 ft in elevation. We found the hike to be easy to moderate with little challenges. The trail has intersections many trails – Bell Rock, Chapel of the Holy Cross, and Broken Arrow. We stayed on Little Horse the whole time up to Chicken point. From there we walked down the hiking trail for Broken Arrow for a short bit to get a view of the Submarine and more.
Like many of the trails in Sedona, the trail is shared by mountain bike riders. The elevation gain on the trail is consistent, but the grade is quite minimal that it doesn’t feel like you’re consistently hiking up. There are definitely a few spots with more steepness than others, but not for long. The trail was relatively wide and easy to share. Notable Sedona rock formations you can see from this trail. To the west is Cathedral Rock. Towering over Chicken Point are the Two Nuns. To the south is Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte. From south to north, when facing east at chicken point you’ll see Lee Mountain, Munds mountain, and Schnebly Hill.
