Little Horse to Chicken Point
We don’t think you can go wrong with any hike in Sedona, but Little Horse Trail really highlights the area’s beauty. The trail begins flat before gradually climbing, with about 564 feet of total elevation gain. We’d rate it as easy to moderate, making it a good option for most hikers.
Along the way, you’ll pass several trail intersections leading to Bell Rock, the Chapel of the Holy Cross, and Broken Arrow. Stay on Little Horse Trail to reach Chicken Point. From there, you can briefly walk down the Broken Arrow Trail for a different perspective, including views of the Submarine formation.
The elevation gain feels steady but not overwhelming, with only a few short, steeper stretches. The trail itself is relatively wide and easy to share, though be mindful of mountain bikers.
Notable formations you’ll see include Cathedral Rock to the west, Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte to the south, and Lee Mountain, Munds Mountain, and Schnebly Hill stretching north to south when you’re facing east from Chicken Point. The towering Two Nuns formation rises directly above Chicken Point, making it one of the most scenic viewpoints in Sedona.
